Split Decision (2023)

Split Decision (2023) is an ongoing personal project that will eventually be converted into the form of a book as well as individual prints. The current sketchbook consists of oil pastel drawings done on 5.5 x 8.5 in. multi-media paper. The inspiration for these drawings come from real life. Simply, if I see something I like, I will sit down and draw it on the spot, or take a picture to draw it later. I want to highlight the world, as seen and as told from my eyes. The project serves as a visual journal for me, a recount of the different highlights I've seen on hikes, outings in nature, and time spent with friends and family. The name "Split Decision" originates from the forking paths that life lays ahead of us. Given the power of choice, many of us may feel we are halted, paralyzed with the burden of making a decision for one path while losing out on the other. With the split-spread nature of this book, I want to remind viewers that you do not necessarily need to miss out on one path in order to experience the other, rather, we have our own freedom to choose what we want in life. You are in control: if you want it all, you take it.
