Painting I Series
March 2020 - June 2020
A collection of paintings I made in my Painting I class while attending the University of California, Irvine. As an introduction to oil painting, the class started students off with the fundamentals of value and color mixing. Techniques such as making neutral grays out of vibrant colors, wet-into-dry, and alla prima were utilized in the beginning paintings. Further basics like composition, patterning, and texture were also key. The final two paintings were done en plein air with spots I frequented in my community. Because of this time during the beginning of quarantine, it had been a rare occasion for me to step out and paint and to see close to no one cross my path outdoors. It was a haunting yet peaceful experience.
